Challenges

Challenges are a community boost_r campaign and competition. We are seeking the best web or mobile ideas for social projects in Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia. Challenges are organized by Fundacja TechSoup, Dokukino (Serbia, BiH), Zašto ne (BiH), SEE-ICT (Serbia) and IPKO Foundation (Kosovo) with support of the National Endowment for Democracy and the Balkan Trust for Democracy.

Between mid-April and May, we invite you to submit ideas and share comments on evolving concepts. All submitted projects will be shared in a project gallery for discussion. After a public vote to determine a short list, a panel of Judges will review comments and interaction with ideas on the platform to surface finalists.

Seven finalists per country will be paired with technologists to develop platform specifications to be programmed in May during code sprints (hackathons).  During the 48-hour sprints, winning sites and/or applications will be built for launch at an Awards Event organized toward the end of June - beginning of July. There, three solutions will be chosen to receive cash and tech support to ensure a successful start to their idea.

Throughout the challenges, Fundacja TechSoup, Dokukino, Zašto ne, and IPKO Foundation will manage a series of offline events around the country to bring together communities of programmers and social innovators, raise profile around the social justice discussion and share results.

A timeline of challenges is below.

Challenges are a part of a bigger project called community boost_r. community boost_r inspires, enables and promotes tech for civil participation in transparency and accountability initiatives in the Western Balkans. The project is run by Fundacja TechSoup and Dokukino in partnership with TechSoup Global and Zašto ne thanks to the support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the National Endowment for Democracy.
