This March in Warsaw, Poland yet another edition of the Personal Democracy Forum Poland & CEE (PDF) will take place. The almost week-long festival will consist of both a conference (March 13-14) and a following Central Open Data Hackathon (March 15-16). The Forum is organized by Personal Democracy Media in partnership with the Polish ePaństwo (ePf) Foundation and with support of TechSoup Europe and Project Teplitsa Technologies for Society. It will highlight key players and initiatives from the region and focus on the topics of transparency, technology, and civic activism.
The up to date program of the meeting is to be found on the event’s website. One of the sessions covers the topic of the “Balkan” elections. The Truth-o-meter (Istinomjer) and community boost_r network representatives will speak at this one. TechSoup Europe also invited last year’s Balkan Challenges winners to both participate in the conference and meet-up for an especially designed workshop. During the workshop, to happen on March 12, winning project’s representatives will evaluate the entire competition experience as well as learn more about usability and civic tech apps in general. One of the trainers will be Tony Bowden of MySociety himself!
The following Central Open Data Hackathon on the other hand, organized within the framework of the Code for Poland hackhaton series as well as a part of the PDF conference, aims to bring together developers, designers, and civic activists from Eastern and Central Europe, who will create applications for the civil society. Programmers will be supported by 30 mentors from all over the world – the people who are engaged in advocating for open data and new technologies serving the society, among them Alicja Peszkowska and Chris Worman from TechSoup Europe. The hackathon is organized by ePanstwo (ePf) Foundation, Common Europe Foundation and Project Teplitsa Technologies for Society
