It has been a week since we have launched the community boost_r Challenges campaign.

It has been... challenging but we already have the first project submission up and we are impatiently looking forward to more.

Do you have any questions? Don't be afraid to ask.

boost_r events. Come & learn!

This and next week we will be meeting with civil society organizations, activists and technologists in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Pristina to talk about the WHY and HOW of Challenges. The very first meet-up is taking place today in Belgrade, another one, in Sarajevo, is coming up this Saturday and the one in Kosovo’s capital is going to happen next Monday.

If you need details, please check out the information below and contact us ([email protected]) if you have any questions. Also: coming to a boost_r event might not only result in you coming up with a great idea for a social project. You can be lucky enough to get one of the bags from the picture above.

Tips & tricks. Read & apply

While we hope to be able to explain it all, be it via online communications means or during these face to face meetings and discussions, we thought of one more way in which we can encourage you to come up with the projects ideas of your own. Here come a few tips and tricks we have prepared to help you think your idea through and present it to others.

To keep in mind before you start

  • WHO are the challenges for?

For all citizens who want to make a change

  • WHAT are challenges anyway?

Open competitions in the transparency and accountability field

  • WHY are we doing it?

To empower citizens with the help of technology tools

How to present your idea

1) Keep in mind who you are talking to. Gain trust of others like you and make them support you via online voting process. Also: impress the jury composed by a team of specialists. Be honest and concrete.

2) Make your point clear. Briefly describe the issue you want to solve and convince everyone it’s important. Prove that you understand the nature of the problem and focus on eliminating its causes rather than effects.

3) Make sure that technology is a tool not a solution in itself. Keep it simple, especially when describing technology behind your project. Your language doesn’t have to be impressive, it should be “to the point” and easy for people to get.

3) Remember that you are working on a “social” project and people are an inevitable part of the process. Define who you want to help, think about building a community that will spread the word about your tool and use it.

4) Show that you understand what running a project takes. Propose a timeline and a budget.

5) If the problem you are aiming to solve is important you should be able to stick around for at least a while. How do you want to do it? Be realistic and share your ideas for making your project sustainable.
